"Happily there is no sign of temperance at the bar, where the innkeeper, Henry Phillips, has an impressively cosmopolitan wine list, with a dozen wines by the glass. There's a jolly ambience, cheerful service and the portions are huge."

The minute you push past the front swing doors, with their stained-glass panels carrying the words "Temperance Hall" you realise you have come somewhere special.
Downstairs there is an amazing interconnecting warren of lavishly decorated bars and dining rooms with old quarry tiled floors, exposed brickwork, beamed ceilings and oak panelling. Baskets of pumpkins and marrow lurk in the corners at harvest time; in December you might well find a basket of huge decorated onions. A profusion of dried herbs hang from the ceilings.
Browse around downstairs and see the Coalbrookdale range, and the many interesting artefacts including objects from the former Phillips Family Brewery.
